30 Days of Remembrance: Philip

Updated: Aug 22

Philip Roman (Phil) was a son, a brother, a grandson, a nephew, a cousin, a dad, and a friend to so many. If you had a connection with Phil, it was for life. He always knew how to put a smile on anyone one’s face and brighten their day!

He would give the shirt off of his own back for a complete stranger even if he wasn’t asked to! Phil’s smile could light up a room. He was kind, compassionate, caring, outgoing and had a heart of gold! His sense of humor would make you laugh until your stomach hurt, and you had to catch your breath from laughing so hard. He loved cooking he probably made the best food around! Although he was handed very unfair cards you would have never know the struggles he was holding into.

Phil lived in our basement and watched all our siblings. He was the kid that would scold you like a dad, baby you like a mom, protect you like a big brother, and be that friend that was always there to listen but, get you in trouble if it meant he could wipe his hands clean haha! Phil made sure that no one ever went without!

Phil loved surrounding himself with family and friends. He loved music, Halloween, the snow, and just all around being the life of the party! If there were glow sticks everyone knew Phil was there!

No one truly knows when Phil’s addiction began. We just know that it all started with the typical experimentation, partying, self-medication, depression, and isolation. We saw a shift in his personality but would still get glimpses of the Phil that we all knew was still in there.

Even while he was fighting his addiction, he made sure his family was taken care of! Phil wanted to stop and wanted to better his life not only for himself but his family. Phil’s pain ended at the young age of 22. He is at peace and no longer battling the horrific disease of addiction.

One thing Phil would have wanted was for everyone to remember the kid he was before his addiction. Phil was so much more than that. He was a person, a beautiful human being who loved with his huge heart and that is how we will always remember him. We share so many stories about him to his nieces and nephews and make sure that he is remembered for his caring heart! Rest In Peace Buddy. We love and miss you more than you will ever know!
